Highlights from orchestral performance and freelance engagements.
Marcus is an accomplished cellist having performed in a variety of styles, ensembles, and locations. He is completing his Bachelor of Music from Miami University where he has studied under Dr. Sarah Kim and Dr. Franklin Sandoval. He has also played in several masterclasses such as for Sarah Berry, Western Kentucky University Professor, Joanna Blendulf, Jacob School of Music Professor and Baroque Cello Specialist, Rictor Noren, Boston Conservatory Professor, Karlos Rodriguez, Cellist for the Catalyst Quartet. He currently serves as the associate principal for the Miami University Symphony Orchestra and is president and co-founder of Miami University Cello Society.
Marcus also has distinguished experience internationally performing with world renown conductor Marin Alsop in Pilzen, Czechia and with Music Generation Laois featuring guest artist Steve Cooney in Laois, Ireland. Additionally, he has also had experience studying with Tamas Varga, Principal Cellist of the Vienna Philharmonic for a short period of time.
Served as a dedicated cello section member, advancing to the position of Associate Principal at the beginning of 2025. Contributed to various symphonic performances and demonstrated leadership within the cello section.
Performed a diverse repertoire ranging from traditional hymns and classical works to contemporary pop arrangements within a dedicated ensemble of 8 to 12 cellists.
Performed as a cello section member, most notably playing Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 ("New World Symphony") under the baton of world-renowned conductor Marin Alsop in Plzeň, Czechia.
Ongoing freelance musician performing for a variety of events, including weddings, church performances, and private events.
Marcus also has experience in arranging music with his biggest arrangement of a violin and cello duet of "Locked Out of Heaven" by Bruno Mars as an undergraduate project. This lead to a masterclass with the Vitamin String Quartet performing this arrangement.
